چکیده
The first-order phase transition in the one-dimensional q-state Potts model with long-range interactions decaying with distance as 1 r1 σ, has been studied by Monte Carlo numerical simulations for 0 σ 1 and integer values of q 2. On the basis of the finite-size scaling analysis of interface free energy ∆FL, specific heat and Binder’s fourth order cumulant, we obtain the first-order transition which occurs for σ below a threshold value σc q .

متن کاملFirst-order transition in the one-dimensional three-state Potts model with long-range interactions
The first-order phase transition in the three-state Potts model with long-range interactions decaying as 1/r has been examined by numerical simulations using the recently proposed Luijten-Blöte algorithm. By applying scaling arguments to the interface free energy, the Binder’s fourth-order cumulant, and the specific heat maximum, the change in the character of the transition through variation o...
متن کاملDetermination of the order of phase transitions in Potts model by the graph-weight approach
We examine the order of the phase transition in the Potts model by using the graph representation for the partition function, which allows treating a non-integer number of Potts states. The order of transition is determined by the analysis of the shape of the graph-weight probability distribution. The approach is illustrated on special cases of the one-dimensional Potts model with long-range in...
متن کاملMean-field driven first-order phase transitions in systems with long-range interactions
We consider a class of spin systems on Z with vector valued spins (Sx) that interact via the pair-potentials Jx,y Sx ·Sy . The interactions are generally spreadout in the sense that the Jx,y’s exhibit either exponential or power-law fall-off. Under the technical condition of reflection positivity and for sufficiently spread out interactions, we prove that the model exhibits a first-order phase ...
متن کاملPhases of the three-state Potts model in three spatial dimensions
The three-state Potts model is numerically investigated on three-dimensional simple cubic lattices of up to 128 volume, concentrating on the neighborhood of the first-order phase transition separating the ordered and disordered phases. In both phases clusters of like spins are observed with irregular boundaries. In the ordered phase the two different non-favored spins are found to attract each ...
